ZURICH, Switzerland/SYRACUSE, New York - July 15, 2008: INFICON (SWX Swiss Exchange: IFCN)
, a global leader in advanced technologies for emergency response and security, and for the refrigeration/air conditioning, semiconductor, solar, vacuum coating, and other industries, has received significant new orders for its HAPSITE Chemical Identification System
for agencies of the People's Republic of China.
The orders, which began shipping last week, are for a total of 19 HAPSITE systems and accessories. Some of the HAPSITEs will be used for emergency response in areas impacted by the recent earthquake in Sichuan Province, where HAPSITES were deployed immediately following the catastrophic event for monitoring water quality, while most are targeted for security purposes at the upcoming Olympic Games in China.
Lukas Winkler, president and chief executive officer, commented, "These important orders demonstrate the continuing diversification - both on a geographic and functional basis - of the demand for our market-leading chemical detection systems. We are gratified to receive additional orders from the People's Republic of China and to put our innovative technology to use for life-saving decisions in a wide-range of applications."
INFICON shipped 38 HAPSITEs and accessories to China's State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), now the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), in the first quarter of 2008 for environmental monitoring.
HAPSITE Chemical Identification System, the only fully man-portable gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (GC/MS), was developed using INFICON expertise in gas-sensing and vacuum technology. It provides fast, on-scene detection and analysis of toxic chemicals in air, soil and water, confirming the presence of chemical threats in high-risk situations. The company has sold these products to military organizations worldwide, state and city governments, and to private and public sector customers for emergency response, security, industrial hygiene and other environmental applications.
INFICON is a leading, provider of innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies, and advanced process control software that enhance productivity and quality in sophisticated industrial vacuum processes. These analysis, measurement and control products are essential for gas leak detection in air conditioning/refrigeration manufacturing and vital to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users in the complex manufacturing of semiconductors, flat panel displays, magnetic and optical storage media, and precision optics. We also leverage our expertise in vacuum technology to provide unique, toxic chemical analysis products for emergency response, security, and environmental monitoring. INFICON has world-class manufacturing facilities in the United States and Europe and subsidiaries in China, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
